IBCS® defines principles for clear and consistent business communication, which are particularly valuable for professionals working with data. Their consistent semantic notation enables faster information processing and more accurate decision-making. By applying clear design principles to reports, presentations, and dashboards—particularly charts and tables—IBCS® helps organizations enhance communication efficiency.

Recognizing this value, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) initiated a new project in August 2024: "ISO/AWI 24896 Standard notation for business reports." Over the next two years, this project aims to define and establish a globally consistent semantic notation for business reporting. The proposal was officially approved and registered as new work item with the number ISO 24896.

When investors, partners, clients, employees, and other stakeholders receive clear and transparent business insights, they gain confidence and feel more secure.

This course demonstrates how using consistent notation ensures your reports are actually read and understood, reducing wrong decisions by 61% and speeding up comprehension by 46%. Learn the why and what of the consistent IBCS® report notation and how to apply it to your charts and tables, plus what it takes to establish a standard notation in your organization—to the benefit of managers, analysts, dashboard designers, and your career.

The course consists of 5 sections with about 30 digestible lessons in total. Every lesson lasts between 5 and 10 minutes. Most are interactive videos enriched with polls, quizzes, and exercises. You also receive a workbook to perform the exercises, and can check your learning progress with a test after each section.
