About this Online Course

A fully self-contained online course for you to learn anytime, anywhere on any device. A compelling curated course for business professionals to learn the features and functions of PowerPoint in the context of the workplace.

There are many online courses out there on PowerPoint – that either just run through the functions without context to real business slides, or they focus too much on graphics and design. In some cases they just specialize in single topics. This course takes everything good about our in-class course and expands it for the online version for a complete look at PowerPoint. Better still; you will have access to the online version for 1-year and in that time, materials will be updated for no additional fees, and no subscription.

This course designed for real employees and is not designed to make employees ‘designer of the year’, or only ‘consultancy’ types of slides. Here we try to provide you a complete experience in all aspects of PowerPoint from a business perspective. From media design to content design and more. This is about learning the mechanisms and applying them back to your own work.

Aside from all the video lessons, you will receive the downloads that will allow you to follow along with the video exercises. These will include the actual slides, icons, images, video and 3D models.

You can find more information by visiting our sister site that hosts our Full Online and Virtual courses at: Impress Training Online

PowerPoint Design: Introduction

Learn how PowerPoint can be a productive and cost saving application when applied with the right resources; such as media libraries platforms and pre-made information decks. Lastly, get a glimpse to the science behind effective presentations, with an emphasis on slide deck design and structure.

Media Design

As business presentations become more visual, the use of image effects, or applying visuals more quickly has become paramount. Participants will learn a range of effects and how using combinations of these can create thrilling new visuals or keep them within the context of the organisations brand ethos.

For presenters or those just having working meetings, the ink and draw functions in PowerPoint better enable whiteboard functionality. In addition, the inclusion of screen recording allows for video tutorials or sharing of information to be more collaborative.

Lastly, of the more practical effects to come to PowerPoint, Morph, makes it easier to create fluid animation rather than stitching the individual animations together in a sequence.

Shape Design

The staple of most presentations is the employment of shapes to create diagrams, process charts, icons and models. Participants will learn how to use Merge Shape functionality to create distinctive styles based, in part, on their own brand guidelines – without any skills required for being a graphic designer. 3D models are a stunning feature to include when showing concepts to clients and management by incorporating them into images and video, or even just stand-alone models.

Participants will understand the concepts to producing more complex models and diagrams and demonstrate this by producing simple IT-network models, real-word objects and business diagrams.

Often overlooked in business because of misuse; animations correctly used, should be for simulations, demonstrations and controlling flow of information.

Content
Document Design: Templates, Layouts, Notes and Interactive.PDF

Many presentations often look thrown together without baring much resemblance to the organisations they represent. Whilst most companies already have a corporate template, many do not employ layouts to speed up their work and standardise the design based on established brand guidelines. Participants will learn to build templates, layouts and common information slides to make their work more productive. This includes providing alternatives to just printing slides as reports; instead, building proper notes pages and menu-based pdf documents.

Participants will come to learn the basic building blocks of a 1:Many or a 1:1 document and which design would be best employed to maximise the value to the audience; and the way in which that audience would view this information

Lastly, when everything is about being mobile and touch – this gives the ability to host online presentations, work on collaborative documents.

Content Design: Assertion-Evidence, Infographics and Charts

Escaping from bullet-point heavy slides is still difficult even today if you haven’t been taught correctly to write content for presentation material (which is different from writing reports). Participants will learn a key methodology for producing content using the Assertion-Evidence model. These produce clearer messages (rather than title-labels) with supporting analysis.

Beyond this, participants will be provided guidelines to create business infographics and practice developing their own, based on actual slides.

And lastly, understanding charts – will provide a brief glimpse into the importance of selecting the right chart-type for the right data type. With examples of common chart and graphing issues.

Morph & 3D Models

The business workplace has changed and so have the devices we use to work in them. Many today have touch enabled devices and so the its only fitting to begin to design content more suited to an interactive environment. Not all slides decks are delivered. Some are given as reports, kiosk demos, media kits, etc. These allow for non-linear presentations or for more 1:1 viewing of the content. Participants will learn how the Zoom and Hyperlink functions will create totally new experiences for their audiences.
